Short answer: Install the IDEX Card app, choose enrolment, hold the card flat against the back of your phone between the middle and the top, set your PIN – or enter it if you have already set one – then place your finger on the card's sensor repeatedly – lifting it clean off and shifting it slightly between presses – until the app confirms enrolment is complete.
Before you start
You need your IDEX card, an NFC-capable Android phone running Android 7.0 or later. A new card has no PIN yet – the app asks you to set one the first time you use it.
Make sure NFC is switched on (Settings → Connections or Connected devices → NFC), the screen is on, the phone is unlocked, and the app stays open in the foreground.
Step by step
- Install the app – IDEX Card on Google Play.
- Choose to enrol your card in the app – a short tutorial leads into the enrolment itself.
- Position the card – hold it flat against the back of the phone, between the middle and the top. On most Android phones the NFC antenna sits under the back cover, often near the centre, on some models closer to the camera area. Slide the card slowly up and down by a few centimetres until it is detected, then hold it completely still – movement resets the connection. Remove your phone case first, especially thick, metal or magnetic cases.
- Set your PIN – or enter it, if you have already set one. Choose it with care: it cannot be recovered, and too many wrong attempts permanently block the card. See: Set your PIN.
- Capture your fingerprint – position the card so the sensor (the small black square in the bottom-right corner) sticks out past the edge of the phone and stays visible; on some models it needs to stick out past the top edge instead, depending on where the antenna sits. Keep the rest of the card flat against the phone, and support it from behind with your other fingers so pressing on the sensor does not tilt it away. Rest the pad of your finger flat on the sensor and lift it clean off between placements. See: Tips for a successful enrolment.
- Finish – the app shows how many placements remain. Keep going until the app confirms enrolment is complete.

Changing the fingerprint later
Fingerprints can be replaced after issue, using the app and your PIN. See: Re-enrol or delete a fingerprint.
