Short answer: NFC antenna placement differs between phones. On iPhone, hold the card flat against the very top of the front screen, facing you. On Android, hold it against the back, between the middle and the top. Move the card slowly until it is detected, then keep it completely still – too much movement resets the connection.
iPhone
- Unlock the phone, open the app and keep it in the foreground.
- Remove the case – especially thick, metal, magnetic or MagSafe cases.
- Place the card flat against the very top of the front of the phone – the antenna sits under a small area near the top edge.
- Slide slowly up and down by a few millimetres to find the sweet spot; it varies slightly per iPhone model.
Android
- Ensure that the NFC is switched on (Settings → Connections or Connected devices → NFC), screen on, the phone is unlocked, app in the foreground.
- Remove the case – especially thick, metal or magnetic cases.
- Place the card flat against the back, between the middle and the top. The antenna is often near the centre, on some models closer to the camera area.
- Slide slowly up and down by a few centimeters to find the sweet spot – antenna position varies per model.
On both platforms
- Once detected, hold the card completely still – too much movement resets the connection.
- Nothing should be placed between the card and the phone: no second card, no wallet.
